Dental Exams and Cleanings

Dental Exams and Cleanings

Whether it is your routine dental cleaning and exam or an emergency, we will use modern diagnostic methods to evaluate your dental health.

Routine Exams and Cleanings

Regular 6 month dental cleanings and exams are a crucial part of maintaining not only your dental health, but your entire well-being. Many diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, infections, and other  conditions can be linked to your oral health.

During a routine cleaning any plaque, debris, and/or stain will be removed and digital x-rays will be taken to evaluate for any underlying conditions.  After Dr. Kaufman completes your checkup, any issues found will be diagnosed and treatment planned with you to optimize your dental health.

Emergency Exams and Treatment

Although not convenient, dental emergencies can happen for many reasons. Trauma can occur from accidents, sports, or tooth grinding and clenching. Even your favorite snacks can cause teeth to break or fracture. Sometimes pain can occur from infections, large cavities, or fillings that have failed.

In these events, please call our office to receive appropriate dental advice from Dr. Kaufman.  Often times medication can be provided to alleviate pain  until a full treatment plan is executed.  In other instances, immediate treatment will be provided or you will be referred to our trusted network of specialists.

Periodontal Treatments

Periodontal disease, or gum disease, is a form of bacterial invasion of the gums around the teeth, the ligament that supports the tooth, and the surrounding bone. If left untreated, this disease can progress to chronic discomfort and pain, bone loss around the teeth, and eventual loosening and loss of teeth.

Our hygienists and Dr. Kaufman will regularly evaluate your gum health and determine if any areas are prone to periodontal disease. If needed, we can provide in-office treatments of scaling and root planing, or a "deep clean", to remove any infection in the gums. In some cases, we will refer you to a periodontal specialist in the area that can evaluate and treat your condition.
